Student Discipline
The New Hanover County Board of Education believes that the maintenance of high citizenship standards provides a school climate conducive to effective teaching for learning.
The following behaviors are examples of unacceptable student conduct:
Insubordination
Persistent disobedience
Disruption of the learning environment
Verbal or physical abuse of peers or staff
Threatening, intimidating, and/or bullying others
Destruction of school property or the property of others
Possession of any dangerous object or weapon
Disciplinary Actions That May Be Taken:
Student conferences
Parental conferences
Detention
Parent attendance in the classroom
Alternative placement
Out-of-school suspension (specific circumstances)
Restitution
School work service
Possible removal from extra curricular activities (i.e., field trips)
In house mental health counseling
Outside counseling within the community
